New Sizinda Child & Women’s Centre

Due to the success of UNICA’s first Child Centre in Victoria Falls established in 2012 and the rising demand for our participatory approaches, UNICA went on to establish its second Child Centre located 17km outside of Victoria Falls.dgdg

The construction phase was generously supported by the Elisabeth Foundation. Other supporters include the Roger Federer Foundation as part of the  Early Childhood Development Project, donations from UN City staff members in Copenhagen, as well as individual donors from around the world.

The  community in Sizinda donated the land for the Centre and community members mobilized local building materials such as bricks and river sand. To date, the Sizinda Child Centre is a key recreational and educational hub for children, youth and women. A pre-school housing 32 children has also been set up.  Youth will soon be undergoing vocational training at this centre to address the high unemployment rate in the country.

Due to the success of UNICA’s first Child Centre in Victoria Falls, construction is underway to establish another centre in Sizinda, a rural community 20 kilometres outside of Victoria Falls. Local women are playing a leading role in the new centre and actively engage in the education of children learning from the centre.
